The Housing Solutions Team & ateb’s Engage hosted a community event on a recent, sunny, Monday evening at Stover Avenue, Sageston. Various ateb staff members were there to interact with customers, including Catherine Morse, dealing with customer energy issues; Sue Mackie, dealing with community development; Ali Evans, dealing with customer engagement & the Housing Solutions Team, dealing with everything else. We also had a visit from Mark Lewis, Executive Director for Customer, who was there to chat with all.
All hands were on deck serving drinks throughout the evening & some staff members went door-knocking in a bid to include customers who chose not to attend the lively event.
Housing Solutions listened to customers on a range of topics from rats, changes to grounds maintenance contracts, parking issues, neighbourhood issues and their circumstances around employment. Some customers were proud to invite the team into their back garden to show innovative improvements, including turning the sheds around, using a cordoning fence to divide gardens and solar lights had been put up to improve visibility at night. Other topics covered with different customers included dogs, live music, traffic & the various flavours of pizza. The Price of Rent & Service Charges surveys were completed & two customers actively came forward to express a desire to set up & run a self-sustaining community group.
Local partners who supported were:
- The Pembrokeshire Food Partnership whose aims are, “to build resilience into local food networks …, creating a more sustainable local system and aiming to tackle the root causes of food poverty.”
- Hywel Dda Outreach – Promoting all aspects of good health.
- Future Care Planning – End of life planning for all (including a very attractive activity on this sunny evening: pick-a-duck!)
- Future Works – Careers advice for all.
A large, A-frame sat at the entrance to the 2 estates (The Corn Fields & Stover Avenue), advertising in Welsh & English the free ateb event, open to all.
Activities included:
- Silbers cic provided wood work activities for all ages & abilities where children made key rings to take home.

- Pembrokeshire Woodfired Pizza’s provided a delicious tuck-in, with their 5 Star food rating and food intolerances addressed.
