As part of our commitment to improving energy efficiency and supporting our communities through sustainable solutions, we recently completed a new eco retrofit project at Stone Court in Milford Haven. 13 properties in the area have been fitted with solar panels as part of this initiative, helping reduce energy bills and carbon emissions for our customers.
We recently caught up with Peter and Valerie, who had solar panels installed on their home around a month ago.

“Delighted” with the results
“We were delighted when we were told we were getting them,” said Valerie. “We’d heard rumours and we were really hoping it would happen. It’s been brilliant.”
The couple have seen a noticeable difference in their energy costs in the short time since the installation.
“Over April, our energy bills were down to a penny a day – and just 50p on a couple of wet days. That’s a huge difference. One of our neighbours said their bill was just over £1.”
Quick, tidy and well-organised work
The installation process took around a week in total, and although there was one minor delay with a delivery, Peter and Valerie said the contractors were “great boys” and kept them informed every step of the way.
“Craig, who was leading the work, was brilliant – he didn’t stop all day and never even stopped for lunch,” said Peter. “They were polite, tidy, and very professional. No mess, no bother – just cracked on with the job.”
Even on rainy days, the team showed up and got to work, something the couple really appreciated.
Making the most of the sunshine
Valerie, who has been discussing with her neighbours on how to maximise the benefits of solar energy, says a few simple changes have helped them get the most out of the system.
“I do the washing, baking, and batch cooking when the sun is out – that’s when the panels are doing their work. We’ve even started switching off everything before bed to conserve more energy.”
The couple’s home now has 20 panels installed, along with a battery to store excess energy – allowing them to use it when the sun isn’t shining.
“Go for it – don’t hesitate”
When asked what they would say to others offered the chance to have solar panels installed, the couple didn’t hesitate.
“Just go for it. The work’s not too disruptive, and the benefits are amazing. We were without electricity for about six hours one day, but it was worth it. A power cut can last longer than that!”
Supporting a greener future
This latest retrofit project is part of our ongoing work to improve the energy efficiency of our homes and reduce carbon emissions across our communities. By investing in sustainable technology like solar panels, we’re helping our customers save on energy costs today while supporting a greener future for tomorrow.
