We’re sorry to see you go, but we want to make sure moving out of your ateb home is as smooth as possible.

Before you leave, it’s important to return your home to us in a clean and tidy condition. This helps avoid any charges and ensures the next person moving in can enjoy their new home right away.

• I want to end my occupation contract, how do I inform you?

  We require at least 4 weeks notice from all contract holders if they wish to leave their home.

• I’d like withdraw from my joint occupation contract. How do I do this?

  If you are a joint contract-holder under a ‘secure occupation contract’ you can withdraw from the contract by giving ateb at least 1 month written notice, as landlord, written notice. This is called a “withdrawal notice”.

  The “withdrawal notice”  must specify the date you intend to withdraw your name from the joint contract. This is called the “withdrawal date”.

  As a joint contract-holder you must give the same “written warning” to the other joint contract-holders at the same time you notify ateb as landlord.

  You will no longer be a joint contract-holder on the “withdraw” date you have given.

  Please note, you are still responsible for your contractual obligations up until the withdrawal date e.g. paying your rent in full.

What we expect when you leave

Here’s a checklist to help you get your home ready:

Clean and Tidy

• Clean all rooms thoroughly – including kitchens, bathrooms, and any appliances you’re leaving behind
• Empty cupboards and drawers
• Sweep and mop floors, and vacuum carpets
• Remove any rubbish, both inside and outside the property
• Clean windows inside and out (if safe to do so)
• Empty your garden shed and make sure your garden has been cleared of any rubbish.

Repairs and condition

• Make sure your home is free from damage beyond normal wear and tear
• Repair any damage caused during your tenancy (e.g. holes in walls, broken doors)
• Don’t redecorate before leaving unless we’ve agreed it with you
• Remove any fixtures or fittings you’ve installed and put back the originals.

Leaving the property

• Return all keys, including shed, window and meter cupboard keys
• Make sure your rent account is clear – speak to us if there are any issues
• Don’t forget to take meter readings and let your utility companies and local council know you’re moving out
• Leave behind any ateb-supplied items such as instruction manuals or bins

Final inspection

We’ll arrange a final inspection before or shortly after you move out. If the home isn’t left in a suitable condition, we may need to carry out work and re-charge this cost on to you.
