Keeping Our Communities Clean and Tidy

We all want to live in places that feel clean, safe and pleasant. Shared spaces, gardens and communal areas are there for everyone to enjoy, but keeping them that way takes a little care from all of us.

Waste and rubbish are the responsibility of each household until it is collected. Taking pride in how we manage our waste helps create neighbourhoods that everyone can feel proud to live in.

Leaving rubbish unsecured or in the wrong place can quickly make shared spaces untidy and unpleasant for neighbours. It can also attract pests and cause litter to spread around the area. By working together and taking responsibility for our waste, we can help keep our communities clean and welcoming.

Finding the Right Information

The Pembrokeshire County Council website has helpful information to support you with managing your waste and recycling.

You can find your Waste and Recycling Collection Calendar, guidance on what can be recycled, and information on services such as bulky waste collections and reporting fly-tipping.

You can also sign up for collection reminders, which can be sent to you by email or text. These reminders make it easier to remember when to put your bins out and help avoid missed collections.

You can find more information here:

You can also get your replacement recycling bags and containers from the locations listed here:

Why Managing Waste Properly Matters

Looking after our waste properly helps protect our neighbourhoods and the environment. When rubbish is tied securely and placed out correctly, it helps prevent litter from blowing around the street and reduces the risk of attracting pests such as rats, foxes and seagulls.

Most importantly, it helps keep shared spaces clean, safe and pleasant for everyone who lives there.

Simple Steps to Manage Your Waste

There are a few simple things you can do to help keep your area tidy. Make sure rubbish bags are tied securely and that bin lids are fully closed so waste cannot escape. Avoid overfilling bins or leaving loose items beside them, as these can easily be blown around in windy weather.

Where possible, store your recycling and refuse in containers that won’t tip over, and only place waste out on your collection day unless local guidance says otherwise.

If you have items that are too large for your bins, Pembrokeshire County Council offers a bulky waste collection service, which is the safest way to dispose of larger household items.

Further information on bulky waste collection can be found here:

Fly-Tipping

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste and can quickly make areas look untidy while harming the local environment.

Large items such as furniture, appliances or bags of rubbish should never be left in shared spaces, next to bins or in public areas. If waste is dumped in this way it can create problems for the whole community.

If you see fly-tipping in your area, you can report it to Pembrokeshire County Council here: https://www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/fly-tipping

Reporting it helps ensure it can be investigated and cleared as quickly as possible.

If Waste Has Blown Around the Street

Householders are responsible for their waste until it has been collected.

If rubbish has blown out of bags or bins, please collect any scattered items as soon as possible. This includes checking pavements, verges and nearby areas where waste may have blown.

Once collected, re-secure the rubbish in tied bags or suitable containers, and take steps to prevent it from happening again, such as using bins with lids or waiting until the morning of collection before putting waste out.

Acting quickly helps prevent litter from spreading further and keeps the neighbourhood tidy for everyone.

Working Together

Small actions from each household can make a big difference. By taking responsibility for our rubbish, recycling properly and keeping shared areas clear, we can help create neighbourhoods that everyone feels proud to call home.

Thank you for helping keep your community clean and tidy.
