Electrician looking at fuse board

Here are some helpful tips when experiencing electrical issues. If you have tried the suggestions below and still need our help, please raise a repair via your My ateb account or call our repairs team on 0800 854568.

No Power

What and where is there no power to? For example, Is it your sockets, lights, cooker?

Have you tried turning these all off and back on one at a time? This could be a faulty appliance causing the fuse board to trip – if you keep the fault item unplugged then your power should stay on/

Where is there no power? Is it upstairs, downstairs, kitchen, or the whole property? Please the fuse box to see if anything has tripped?

What sort of meter do you have and is there credit available? You may need to call your energy provider.

Electric Shower

Have you checked for any issues with the water supply to the shower or electrical supply?

Is it a pull cord or a wall switch? Please check this and let a member of the repairs team know when you call.

Smoke Alarms

Please can you advise us where in the property is the alarm? such as Hallway, Landing, Kitchen or Living room?

Are you able to tell if it is a smoke alarm or carbon monoxide alarm and if it is on the wall or ceiling?

Outside Lights

Where is the light outside?

Is it at the front, back, side of the property, or is it part of a communal area?

Can you check if it is a sensor light or one that is controlled by an on/off switch? Have you checked the light is turned on?

Bathroom Lights

Please can you advise is it the ceiling light or a on a wall.

Is it a shaver light that is sealed, and you are unable to change the bulb, please check this and let a member of the repairs team know when you call.

If you have a light not working in a bathroom with no window, please let a member of the repairs team know when you call.

Extractor Fans

Please tell us which room is the fan in, for example, the Kitchen, Bathroom or WC room (separate toilet).

It’s also useful to know if the fan is on the wall or ceiling, please check the fan is turned on at the main switch. If it is a trickle fan this should be left running continuously.

Lights

Which room in the property is the light? Have you replaced the bulb? Do you think the problem is with the switch or the light?

What type of light is it? Is it a pendant that hangs down or a fluorescent strip light commonly found in kitchens?

If it is a fluorescent light have you changed the bulb and starter motor? Please be aware this needs to be done before you contact us to attend, please let a member of the repairs team know when you call.

Light Switches

Where in the property is the switch? And is it a wall switch or a pull switch?

How many switches are on the wall plate, is it double or single and have you checked them all?

Plugs

Please can you check if anything has tripped in the fuse board, please try a different appliance like a lamp in the socket.

Please advise if this is a double or single socket, and whether it has come loose or has any exposed wires. It is really important not to touch any exposed wires! Please let a member of the repairs team know when you call.
