Customers transform shared space into a thriving community garden

Customers at one of ateb’s schemes have transformed their shared outdoor space into a vibrant, wildlife-friendly garden, demonstrating the positive impact that can be achieved when communities are empowered to take ownership of where they live.

Supporting customers to manage and improve their shared spaces is an important part of ateb’s commitment to creating better living solutions. By giving individuals and community groups the opportunity to shape their local environment, these projects help strengthen communities, improve wellbeing and create greener places for everyone to enjoy.

At this particular scheme, customers came together to remove overgrown shrubbery and completely reimagine the shared garden. With biodiversity at the heart of the project, they introduced a range of new planting designed to attract bees, butterflies and other important pollinators, while a specially built bug hotel provides an additional habitat for local wildlife.

Before and after pictures below:

A proportion of the funding for the plants was secured through the ateb Trust, helping to bring the customers’ vision to life.

The transformation didn’t stop once the planting was complete. The garden is now fully managed by the customers themselves, who continue to invest their own time and effort into caring for the space through regular weeding, pruning and general maintenance. Their dedication has created an attractive outdoor area that can be enjoyed by everyone living at the scheme.

The project is a fantastic example of community empowerment in action, showing how customer-led initiatives can make a lasting difference to both people and the environment.

A huge thank you goes to everyone involved for their enthusiasm, hard work and commitment. Together, they have created a welcoming, sustainable space that will benefit both residents and local wildlife for years to come.
