As part of ateb’s commitment to improving energy efficiency across our homes, 14 properties in Ffynnon Wen have recently received new solar panel systems through our eco retrofit programme.
This investment forms part of our wider plan to make homes warmer, more affordable, and more environmentally friendly for our customers.
What work was carried out?
The retrofit works focused on the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels across 14 homes. These panels are designed to harness the power of the sun, helping to generate electricity for day-to-day use and reduce reliance on the grid.
All works were completed by our trusted contractors, with care taken to minimise disruption where possible.
Why did we do this?
Energy costs remain high, and we know that many customers are feeling the pressure. Installing solar panels is one of the ways we can help households save on their bills while reducing their carbon footprint.
This project supports our ongoing sustainability goals and ensures our homes continue to meet modern standards.
We’ve been granted £1 million from the Welsh Government for this financial year, which will be used to install more solar panels and batteries across over 100 properties. Keep an eye out for updates on our progress!

What did our customers think?
Kathleen, one of our customers in Ffynnon Wen, spoke to us about her experience of the installation.
“They were nice lads – polite and respectful,” she said. “It was a bit noisy, and I had to take my dogs to my daughter’s because one of them was frightened, but the workers were good. The manager was supportive too – when I had a concern, he sorted it straight away.”
Although the work caused some disruption at the time, Kathleen said the benefits are already starting to show:
“My electric meter hasn’t gone into the red since they were installed. I’ve got more credit now, and I haven’t had to use the heating nearly as much.”
Her advice to others?
“Just be prepared for the day they come. It was a bit of upheaval, but well worth it in the end – and I’m grateful for it.”
What difference has it made?
It’s early days, but customers like Kathleen are already seeing real savings. Lower bills, better comfort, and reduced reliance on heating have all been reported since the installation.
By using renewable energy, homes at Ffynnon Wen are now contributing to a greener future for our communities — and helping reduce the impact of climate change.
A positive step forward
Kathleen summed up her experience by reflecting on the bigger picture:
“Why shouldn’t I be grateful? It was free, and I’m already saving money. I think now, it was well worth it.”
We’re continuing to improve the energy efficiency of our homes across West Wales, with more retrofit works planned in the near future. If you’re an ateb customer and want to learn more about future energy-saving improvements, keep an eye on our ateb Net Zero webpage.
